Client Background
Paul was excited. He had just been told that he had been promoted into a senior executive role at the insurance company where he worked. This was Paul'sfirst executive roleand,given hisambitious nature, he was verykeen tosucceed.When his CEO met with him to give him the good news, he also outlined what he thought Paul's main priorities should be;
Focusing on creating the company's strategic plan and;
Building good Internal and External relationships – an area that had not been handled very well by Paul's predecessor.
What did the client want to achieve?
After leaving that meeting with his CEO, Paul reflected on what he wanted to achieve in the role.Sure, he wanted to achieve his business results, but he also wanted to progress further and; he had seen many people reach the executive rungs and then burn out, leaving the business with their health and family in tatters.
Paul did not want this to happen to him; rather he decided that he would add a couple more priorities to the CEO's list. Paul decided that he would put a significant focus on maintaining his health and well-being and make sure he spent significant quality time with his family. He also recognized that the job would fill up whatever space he allowed it to fill and so he determined he would make sure he directed his energy in the directions that would get the best outcomes for him and the team.
Paul wanted to be seen as a leader and recognized the imperative for him to not just focus on his own results but to get the best from those who worked with him. He wanted to make work an enjoyable experience for them. Acknowledging that he had plenty to learn in terms of making this hang together, Paul picked up the phone and called PriorityOne.
The Optimal Performance Approach
After looking at the Optimal Performance Model with his coach over lunch, Paul concluded that he really needed to focus on all four aspects
Creating the strategic plan (Organisational Transition),
Developing his leadership skills (the Working Environment)
Maintaining his well being (Personal Wellness) and;
Expanding his personal network (WebWorks).
PriorityOne provided an Executive Coach to help him with his leadership skills and engaged their personal trainer and a chiropractor to help him with his fitness and general well being.
The Executive Coach also worked with Paul to develop the Strategic Plan and his brand awareness. Finally,they organized for Paul to attend a number of WebWorks events where he was able to connect with people who would ultimately help him achieve goals he had not even dreamed about.
The Optimal Performance Results
Six months down the track, Paul found the role was everything he had hoped for. He was receiving great feedback from the CEO about not only the quality of the strategic plan, but also its high levels of productivity and smooth implementation. He was meeting his KPI's, his team were happy and there was a common language enabling open communication.
Paul felt he had more energy than he had ever had and was able to enjoy quality time relaxing at the weekends with his wife and family and even found the time to pick up his kids once a week from school.
